I am not the biggest Monkey Island fan out there, but Lucasarts are definately number one for adventure games! Maniac Mansion 1 and 2 being my favourites. The piano tune that Jojo the monkey plays in the second Monkey Island installment is very catchy, memorable, piratey and fun to listen to over and over again, for me at least. Listening to this song over and over again in MIDI format I decided it needed some mixing, and why not a club dance mix? LucasArts have always been successful with character creations, great and original plots, and music themes. Jojo happens to be a theme that I found very enjoyable and easy to mix, and I like what I've done with it.
Suprisingly the drums and dance effects came naturally to me with this mix. The drums were easy, added a clap to replace the snare, and the rest is basic groovy dance. I also think a big factor to why the mix is so fluent is the stop/start synth effect, otherwise known as the 'Legend B thing'. The samples are clean, I even sneaked in some organ samples, and above all, the tune rules! :)
