Crosswords for your palm.

README for Crosswords 2.0

The .zip file you downloaded contains three .prc files in addition to this

README.

xwords2LH.prc (deflated 41%)

adding: xwords2RH.prc (deflated 41%)

adding: xwconfig/xwconfig.prc

The first two, xwords2RH.prc and xwords2LH.prc, are right- and

left-handed versions of the Crosswords 2.0 application. If you're

only interested in playing with standard English tiles and on the

default board (both popularized by the Scrabble(tm) brand crosswords

game) then one of these is probably the only file you care about.

Install it and have fun.

The third application file, xwconfig.prc, allows you to configure and

customize your copy of Crosswords. With it you can

1) Switch between English and any of the supplied non-English tile

sets. Users around the world have supplied information I've used to

create sets for German, Italian, Dutch, French and Spanish.

2) Install an alternative board layout.

3) Edit either of the above or create your own. If you think there ought

to be 10 'Q' tiles worth 3 points each in the game, you can do that. Want

three triple-word-score squares side-by-side? You can do that too.

Crosswords is pretty well documented at http://www.peak.org/~fixin/xwords.

Documentation for xwconfig isn't ready yet. I'm hoping you'll figure it

out, but if you don't ask me via email at [email protected]. I'll answer

your question, and knowing there are people using it will encourage me to

get the docs ready.

(I'm busy finishing the computer player for Crosswords 3.0, so forgive

me if I'm distracted. :-)

Enjoy,
