Important Info

--------------

Please read the Warnings section below.

To install, simply type "setup" from the directory where you unpacked

this archive.

To uninstall, simply go to the Control Panel / Add/Remove Programs, and

select KnightPad HotSync Conduit.

Warnings

--------

-You must have installed at least version 0.9.3 of KnightPad for the conduit

to do its work. The whole truth is that you must also run it, so that it

can upgrade the database on the handheld.

-It is generally a good idea to have ECTool shutdown/closed while hot syncing.

Or at least close your games. Until Andres and I can work out some sort

of signalling mechanism, where I can tell him to reload the open files

intelligently, ECTool has no idea that a conduit even exists.

-Please backup your files, I can not be responsible for any data that you lose.

This is beta software and even when it does get to release 1.0.0, I still

won't make any guarantees, but I am making every effort to make it perfect,

as I use it every day and will certainly fix any bugs I discover and make

my best effort to fix those you report.

-Because you can't set all the values used in ECTool from KnightPad, after

HotSyncing new games from the Pilot to ECTool, you may wish to review

some of the settings. Once you have saved them in ECTool they will be

preserved, as KnightPad knows about all of them and saves them all.

-Because ECTool has no concept of Categories, any games which are created in

ECTool and then HotSynced to KnightPad will appear in the Unfiled category.

-Some fields have a limited size in ECTool format. As a result, it is possible

to enter text in KnightPad which will then be truncated.

The scenario: Create a game on the Pilot, edit one of the fields and make

it very large, then HotSync, update any aspect of the game in ECTool,

HotSync again, then view the large edit field in KnightPad and the extra

data will be gone.

-Please be aware that the orientation of the board (white at bottom or top)

is whacky when you use the 'User pieces always at bottom' check box in

the configuration dialog of ECTool. I recommend leaving this unchecked

and just using the Tool menu of the game to reverse the board to the way

you want it. KnightPad will respect this setting, preserve it and even

let you change it.

-In the 'KnightPad' subdirectory under your Palm username, you should be able

to find a '.PDB' file which is a backup of the database. You can install

this if your database becomes corrupt or broken, but it is updated after

each HotSync, so you may want to back it up occasionally.

Price

-----

The conduit is free, but it doesn't work with anything but KnightPad.

It costs $15 to register KnightPad.

If you have not registered KnightPad the conduit will enforce the following

limitation:

One game of unlimited moves

OR

Every game with more than five moves will be truncated.
