Odorikuruu

Odorikuruu seemlessly arranges various cuts of dancing and sets it to an upbeat and extremely catchy tune. One of the top AMV's in 2001, this film garnered a few awards in various conventions around the country. Odorikuruu means "to dance in ecstasy."

It all started with the first time I heard a song that I thought was so nice, cute, fluffy and bouncy... Elissa's Mamboleo (a Canadian artist too!). Immediately, various cuts of anime flashed in my mind as I listened. I knew I wasn't drunk, high or watching a TV, so it must have been that thing called inspiration. I knew I had to make an AMV to this song...

The original concept was to create an anime 'live' concert video, but the required amount of this type of footage was difficult to find. So, the concept changed to an anime dance music video. Once again the challenge was coming up with enough dance footage to feed this video. Oh, how I searched far and wide for clean openings of 'Hana Yori Dango' and 'Mamotte Shugogetten'! Thus the major portion of a year was used in acquiring clips and sticking them into Premiere...I felt like I was building a house by adding a two-by-four and a couple of nails every week or so. I was asking every anime fan I knew if they remembered ever seeing dancing or concert anime. It surprised me just how little dancing there is in anime, so I ended up adding a few other cuts to match lyrics. The small break in the middle of the AMV was inspired by pure desperation to fill time, and became a moment of grace under pressure.
